Safe Driver Install

You have a new or old piece of hardware and you want to use on your computer.  Problem is you do not have the driver and you search and find several possible drivers you can use.  How do you decide which one is safe to install?  I have found an article that covers what you should know when it comes to driver installation.

Let me say that when you are about to engage in driver installation, even manufacturer’s drivers can cause problems.  I would with a printer and there was not a native window’s driver to use so I went to the manufacturer’s website and downloaded the universal driver.  The reason for this choice was I needed to install on a server and couple workstations.  Sadly, the universal driver caused severe problems, almost bringing the server down.  Before you install I strongly recommend that you create a restore point in case there is a problem.
